After the wreck and countless other close calls or bumps from the E30 drivers (who also run in Group A with the Spec Miatas), in 2015 I decided to only race in the PTE class, which put me in Group C – and (IMNSHO) in with more skilled drivers. But, only doing one group leaves a lot of time just hanging around the track, so I decided to also try running in the Time Trials (TT) group. The difference is that TT is still technically part of the HPDE series, so the emphasis is on safety, not "winning".
While I could recount the specifics of every race weekend, most of them had the same story. Uneventful warm-up, uneventful qual, and while there is a pucker factor in every actual race – also those were also uneventful.
So, I’ll only provide details for those that were less… uneventful.
But, after thinking about how I had finished in the standings last season, I began to wonder what might happen if I showed up for every race and ran clean every time. I just might accumulate enough points to finish in the top few.
