One of the things that I had been told consistently was that the horsepower of my car had been holding me back from becoming a better driver – that a “momentum car” (one that had no acceleration, so you had to keep every ounce of momentum in turns) would teach me to be a way better driver.
That, combined with the fact that there was no way I was going to let either of the kids drive the NSX, put me on the low-key hunt for a “momentum car”.
Finally, after the last track day of 2013, one of the participants decided to sell his 1997 Mazda Miata (definitely a momentum car). With known heritage, and appropriate haggling, I bought it. Now, we had a car I could learn to become a better driver in, as well as one I would let Chris drive.
