The 2014 season started with a TF track day at Laguna Seca. Now, I had never run Laguna Seca either, but fortunately for me, Laguna Seca is one of the tracks in the video game Gran Turismo. So, you can spend hours in the comfort of your home learning the format/layout of the track – which I did. Chris was kind enough to loan me his PlayStation 3 for just such a purpose, though I probably frustrated him since he kept saying “Dad, you can go faster!!”
So, when track day came, the track was entirely familiar to me. That said, there was an “old hand” at the morning driver’s meeting who added a few extra tips (coming over the corkscrew, aim between the first and second of the three trees).
Turns out, the horn was still honking around turns, but in the driver’s meeting, I fessed up that this was happening and that it was not me actually honking at the other drivers. Everyone laughed at my plight.
It was really fun driving such an iconic track – and the corkscrew is REALLY fun.
